Tajweed is the set of rules that govern how the Quran should be pronounced correctly, and it’s usually the course students take once they can already read Arabic script but want their recitation to actually sound right. If you’ve ever noticed that reciters trained in Tajweed sound noticeably different from someone reading letter by letter, that difference is what this course teaches.
What Tajweed Actually Covers
The rules fall into a few main areas: where each letter is pronounced from in the mouth and throat (makhraj), how letters change slightly depending on what follows them, how long to hold a vowel sound, and when consecutive letters should blend rather than being pronounced separately. On paper this can look technical, but in practice it’s taught through repetition and correction rather than memorizing rule names.
How Sessions Work
Because Tajweed is about sound, not just knowledge, this course is taught entirely one-on-one over live video. Your teacher listens to you recite, stops you at the exact point a rule isn’t being applied, and has you repeat it until it’s correct. That kind of real-time correction is hard to get from a recorded course or an app, which is part of why this is offered as live tutoring rather than self-paced video lessons.
No background beyond basic reading fluency is required to start. If you’re not yet comfortable reading Arabic script independently, it’s worth starting with Quran reading basics first, since Tajweed assumes you can already read the words themselves.

Some students are also working toward an Ijazah in Quran recitation, for which solid Tajweed is a prerequisite.
